Upcoming Hobby Plans

First up, I'm going to start playing games on Tuesday nights regularly again. I'm very excited. I'll be joining my father and my friend Charles to start out. With luck I can get 1 or 2 more people involved and we can have some nice, full games.

Second, I have plans for my hobby time over the next few months:

• Warhammer Ancients: I have 102 models to build and paint for Adepticon. This is for the team tournament and it takes hobby priority.


• Historicals: Pirates and Western models. These are for Legends of the High Seas and Legends of the Old West. I want to make these models look really nice so I'll be taking my time with them.


• Warhammer 40k: I have decided to paint up Space Marines in way that will make me happy. I'm going to do one Squad (10 models max) from each of the main Chapters. Ultra Marines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, and Space Wolves will probably be first. These are for fun and probably won't be super high quality.


• Warmachine: I'm looking at getting into this game. It seems like a good time and doesn't require a lot of models. I'll have to get the people I play with to agree.

Third, I may be building some old west structures. I enjoy building terrain, though I don't feel like I have a lot of time to do it. We'll see what the winter holds this year.

O&G: More Wolf Riders

I finished this unit of Goblin Wolf Riders the other day. This is the second unit of four. I'm pretty happy with how they came out. I realized while taking the pictures that there is a dot of paint, where it should not be, on the goblin boss. I'll have to fix that later.

Pirate Santa

I entered into a Christmas Miniature Painting contest on a forum I'm a member of. The competition states that if the model has a santa hat you get an extra 5 points. There was also a requirement of including the colors red, white, and green.

For this model I used some Green Stuff (modeling putty) to modify the hat and to add the Santa bag. I had fun painting it, but I would have liked to spend more time on the fleshtone on the face.

Weight Loss

I've put on a lot of weight over the past few years. It's getting pretty crazy. When I got married I weight between 155 and 160 pounds. Now I'm up to between 190 and 195. I'm now going to be joining a contest with some of my co-workers.

The contest works like this. Each participant puts in $20 to join. After that, weight is tracked by weigh in each Friday. For every pound gained the participant throws $2 into the pot. The person who loses the most weight by the end of the contest gets all the money. Now, if someone has a lot of weight to lose and they can stick to the dietary change they make and working out they will probably win the money.

My primary goal is, simply, to not put anymore money into the pot. Considering I'm sick of weighing as much as I do and I have a gym available to me, I should not have a problem attaining that goal. If the contest runs until January 1st I should, legitimately, be able to lose 8 pounds in a healthy fashion.

8 pounds doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a start. If I can get myself into that routine then I should be able to lose then other 30 pounds or so I would like to take off. For my height, I should be in the 150 to 160 range. That is what I'm shooting for. Then I'll have to keep my dietary change and workout routine in place in order to keep it off.

I'm feeling pretty confident that I can pull this off.

Alien vs. Predator Requiem

I recently watched Alien vs. Predator Requiem. I didn't go into the movie thinking it was going to be anything great and I'm really glad. Be warned, there are spoilers here. It wasn't even anything good. I'm not entirely sure why they made this movie.

The movie featured some of the basic items from the previous Alien and Predator movies. The Predator had two shoulder weapons instead of one. In fact, the Predator had all of the weapons out of the previous movies plus a few more. I thought it was neat when one of the shoulder weapons was removed in order to be turned into a space aged sawed off shotgun.

AvP:R also featured an Alien Predator hybrid. Certainly different, but not all that great. The Aliens went kind of nuts in the town they dropped into. They killed, something like, 90% of the town in about a day. The U.S. Military managed to take care of the rest.

While the action scenes were well done, I never felt like the Predator was in any real danger until the end. Then, instead of giving us a clear winner, everyone was blown up. If they make another movie, I hope they will finally give us a winner instead of copping out.
